Module 8 - Strategic Leadership
Module description
Strategic Leadership is fundamentally about big ideas and about four tasks connected with those big ideas: first, getting the big ideas right; second, communicating them effectively; third, ensuring that they are executed properly; and fourth, capturing, sharing, and institutionalizing lessons learned and best practices identified during the execution of those big ideas.

The attributes that make a successful strategic leader are fundamentally different than the attributes that garner success at lower levels of the organization. Leadership that is strategic must have strategic implications for the organization, more precisely, these strategic implications specifically are broad in scope, felt over a long period of time, and often involve significant organizational change.

During the workshop, we will discuss the following questions:
  1. What are the key elements that differentiate between leading at the strategic level and other forms of leadership? Do you have examples to illustrate the difference? Is this difference important?
  2. How does context affect leadership roles and tasks? What are the main elements of leadership practices that must be mastered to be an effective leader?
  3. What leadership skills are essential in a complex, uncertain environment?

The main learning objectives of this workshop is:
  1. Understand the role of strategic leadership in organizational success
  2. Compare the differences between the leadership practices at a strategic level to the lower levels of the organization
  3. Determine personal skills and critique how those skills affect strategic leadership capability.
